Managing Director, Australia

Sydney, Australia

Full-time

350-420k+ OTE (50/50 split with accelerators)

Remote

About the Company

Our client is a fast-scaling Microsoft-centric platform powering the Cloud Workspace revolution through Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), Windows 365, and Intune. This operating platform automates deployment and management, cuts Azure compute/storage costs by up to 80%, simplifies hybrid workforce endpoints, and enables partners to build scalable recurring cloud revenue—modernizing enterprises away from legacy VDI solutions like Citrix/VMware.

Chicago-headquartered since 2016, the business has grown to ~450 global employees after a landmark ~$500M Series C (valuing it at $1.5B+), more than doubling headcount in two years. APAC is a strategic priority under new regional leadership, with Australia as the anchor market (~10-14 staff, $14-15M AUD ARR, 200+ customers, established partner ecosystem including Datacom and Logicalis). The culture is autonomous, entrepreneurial, and collaborative—low-ego leaders thrive in this remote-first environment where proactive communication and team-first behaviors drive outsized impact.

About the Role

We are hiring a Managing Director, Australia—a true country GM role owning P&L, strategy, team leadership (~12-14 people), and one Enterprise sales territory while scaling the region's growth trajectory. Reporting to the Head of APAC (ex-Citrix APAC leader), you'll unify matrixed global teams, execute Microsoft co-sell motions, expand the partner ecosystem, and drive ~$10M net new revenue ambition over 12-24 months from a strong established base.

This hands-on "doer" leadership role demands strategic vision, sales DNA, and charisma to rally sales, pre-sales, support, and partner functions in a fast-paced scale-up. Sydney-based preferred to anchor the Microsoft ecosystem. If you want to own Australia's next growth chapter in the Microsoft Cloud workspace transformation—and shape APAC expansion—while enjoying genuine autonomy, this is your platform.

What You Will Be Doing

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead and coach a high-performing team of ~12-14 (4 sellers, 2-3 pre-sales, SDRs, support, partner manager), translating global strategy into regional priorities, goals, and cadences.

  • Foster a collaborative, transparent, results-driven culture with weekly/monthly rhythms, constructive feedback, and cross-functional alignment (despite global reporting lines).

  • Build charisma and energy to unify distributed teams and inspire scale-up execution.

Partnership Development

  • Scale a high-performing partner ecosystem (8-10 established relationships like Datacom/Logicalis) for predictable revenue and market coverage.

  • Collaborate with Microsoft sales teams and executives to identify/convert AVD opportunities; nurture C-level stakeholder relationships.

  • Drive sophisticated co-sell motions leveraging Nerdio's Azure-native differentiation.

Sales Strategy & Execution

  • Develop and own strategic sales plans to hit revenue targets/KPIs from $14-15M ARR base (~50% net new mix).

  • Carry one Enterprise territory personally while overseeing the full Australia portfolio (cross-industry: gov, health, edu; FSI covered by new hire).

  • Monitor metrics, analyze performance, and execute hands-on to accelerate growth.

Market Intelligence

  • Stay ahead of AVD/EUC trends, competitive landscape, and emerging cloud technologies.

  • Conduct market research to uncover opportunities; provide actionable feedback to product/marketing teams.

  • Demonstrate strategic thinking via presentation (30-60-90 plan or market strategy).

What We Are Looking For

  • 12+ years progressive tech sales/leadership selling cloud computing/SaaS solutions, with proven quota attainment in scale-up environments.

  • Established trajectory: rep → manager → director → senior director (direct sales DNA required; not pure IC step-up or big-corp CEO).

  • Experience managing remote/distributed sales teams; deep Microsoft Azure/AVD fluency and co-sell expertise.

  • Strong partnership/channel development track record; CRM proficiency; excellent communication to engage executives.

  • Hands-on "doer" able to carry accounts while leading; charisma to break silos and rally matrixed functions.

  • Sydney-preferred (Microsoft/customer hub); startup/scale-up success essential.

NOT a fit: Arrogant/lone-wolf profiles, Microsoft sellers lacking "hunger," or detached strategists without execution pedigree.

Nice to Have but Not Essential

  • VDI/workspace modernization background (Citrix/VMware transitions).

  • Prior country/GM experience in APAC tech scale-ups.

  • Existing Australia partner ecosystem relationships.

Why This Role

  • Own APAC's #1 priority market with real P&L autonomy and ~$10M net new ambition.

  • Post-Series C momentum fueling global expansion (450+ staff, structured leadership).

  • Startup energy + established base (not greenfield; 200+ customers, proven partners).

  • Microsoft Cloud tailwinds in AVD/Windows 365—genuine category leadership.

  • Fast-track to regional influence: Excel in Australia → shape Japan/SEA roadmap.

  • Competitive OTE $350-450K AUD (50/50 split, uncapped upside); stock options; unlimited PTO (+ birthday); full benefits.

Hiring moves fast (2-3 weeks): 4-5 stages with APAC Head, global VPs, possible President (Sydney F2F ~Feb 15). Wonderlic assessment used for insights, not elimination.
